Walters' LEED-H Gold Home
When Dave and Jean Walters of D & J Properties (a green consultancy group in GA and NC) came to us to design their own certified green home for their land in a unique conservation easement setting in Balsam Mountain Preserve, a private community in the Great Smoky Mountains, we knew we had found kindred spirits. What began first as broad brush concepts concerning the environment, craftsmanship, and lifestyle soon took shape as architectural design, timber frame engineering and construction, enclosure systems, interiors, and fine woodworking. The Walters' passion for their land, combined with their background in home furnishings and residential interior design allowed this project to evolve through all of our groups, making the process easier, more streamlined, and the final product consistent in quality and aesthetics. Though just recently completed, already the home has earned the highest statewide accreditation point count of any NC HealthyBuilt Home Gold project and is one of the first homes in western North Carolina to achieve LEED-H Gold status from the US Green Building Council.
