Join New Energy Works, Passive House Northwest, and Zero Coalition for an evening of sustainable building, information sharing, and community at this industry event the Friday after Living Futures Conference in Portland.

This session covers key developments in research, policy, standards, and technology, such as RESNET Standard 1550, the Massachusetts 100 Homes study, and equipment emission research. Racusin will also discuss the critical relationship between operational and embodied carbon, emphasizing combined strategies to optimize total carbon emissions without falling into common “payback” traps.

Jacob Deva Racusin, Co-Founder & Director of Building Science and Sustainability at New Frameworks will be speaking on bio-based materials and their impact on embodied carbon metrics to policy to collective impact to building science to the power of the residential sector.

Racusin will further delve into the role of bio-based materials in embodied carbon reduction, including carbon storage accounting and opportunity for panelized off-site construction to scale high performance bio-based building technologies. He will connect regenerative land-based industries with sustainable building practices and address the building science behind durable bio-based materials. The event concludes with actionable strategies for transformational change in the building industry, focusing on collective impact, organizational alignment, and scaling efforts amid current economic and political challenges.
