Super-Sized Timbers

Soaring interiors, a bridge to the ADU (accessory dwelling unit), and room for family mark this very personal project south of Oregon City. There is drama as one enters with a timber and steel open staircase. The timbers are larger than “normal” and stained a dark chestnut, and the pegs are left long for emphasis.

We raised this frame a few years back but were re-introduced to the finished home just recently when the owners called and said, “We’re downsizing, have some land nearby, and you guys are our team.” Raising a second home for the same client is no longer a rarity as the years progress, but still, it feels quite special.
