Seth, one of our West Coast Timber Framers, performs a magical woodworkers trick with a towel and iron. When a timber is scratched, you can put a wet cloth on it to dampen the fibers and the iron helps them expand back up. Then when you sand it back down, the scratch will disappear. Viola! Timber perfection.
