A "bent" is the term for a traditional structural unit of a timber frame that includes the truss, the two posts that extend to the deck, and braces. When we raise a frame, the team will often assemble these flat on the deck, and then raise them upright to connect to "purlins" between the bents. Besides having a fun set of terms, it's always a wicked cool thing to see in person...bents being pulled into place by the crane and team...one after another after another after another.
