We’re looking for a Journeyman Carpenter / Timber Framer to join our passionate and creative team in McMinnville OR. This role is quality-oriented and craft-focused working with heavy timber construction both in the shop and on-site. New Energy Works has been designing and crafting custom homes and other structures across the nation for 30+ years, and this job is also an opportunity to learn and grow within an experienced and established team of craftspeople.  

Extensive field and shop experience are important, as we work on-site during installations and in the shop during fabrication. Travel out of town or longer commutes should be expected.

 

Required Experience:

 

  • 4 years minimum experience in carpentry or construction field
  • Shop lead, crew management, or foreman level work experience
  • Advance woodworking experience including large pieces/heavy timbers
  • General understanding of timberframe construction
  • Experience with shop production
  • Site related experience including building/frame erection
  • Understanding of layout and building plans
  • Ability to use portable and stationary tools
  • Forklift and heavy equipment operation experience such as telehandlers, boom lifts, and overhead cranes
  • Availability to travel out of town for short durations
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

 


Preferred Experience:

 

  • Familiarity or aptitude with CNC and CAD
  • Extensive carpentry/ construction experience with high-craft and high-performance homes
  • Timber framing / heavy timber experience

The base salary range for this position is $30 - $35

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.

Reports To: Shop Manager

 

Overview –

 

This advanced role is quality-oriented and craft-focused working with heavy timber construction both in the shop and on-site. Both field and shop experience are important, as we work on-site during installations and in the shop during fabrication. Travel out of town or longer commutes should be expected for this role.

 

Duties include cutting mortise and tenon joints, surfacing and finishing timbers, moving material with a forklift, and traveling with a team to help raise timber frames on-site including rafters, posts, beams, and trusses assembly.

 

 

Core Competencies:

 

 

  • Ability to effectively read and understand layout and building plans.
  • Traveling with crew to erect and install timber frames.
  • Working with power tools (skill saw, belt sander, power drill, etc.).
  • Working with traditional hand tools (chisel, mallets, etc.).
  • Sanding timber.
  • Distressing timber.
  • Cutting and cleaning/squaring joinery on timber.

 

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities Required:

 

  • Extensive experience in residential and commercial construction.
  • Extensive carpentry and framing experience.
  • Ability to use portable and stationary power tools with confidence.
  • Familiarity or aptitude with CNC and CAD.
  • Carpenter, Framer, or Woodworking experience.
  • Ability in problem-solving.
  • Ability to travel with installation crews.
  • Professional with a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated and confident.
  • Strong communication skills.

 

 

Equipment & Vehicles:

 

 

  • Must have/ maintain a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Maintain proper operation and cleanliness of company vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
  • Reporting of any issues with company vehicles or equipment to direct supervisor.
  • Manage company tools/ equipment on-site and on-campus.
  • Must be or be able to be certified in forklift operations.

 

 

Safety & Compliance:

 

 

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards (10 hour preferred)
  • Ability to ensure a safe, clean, and professional jobsite.
  • Knowledge and implementation of best builder practices for all assigned project scopes.
  • Comply with all New Energy Works policies and codes of conduct.
