Winds of Winter
Stowe, VT
For this ski lodge in Stowe, Vermont, an abundance of Douglas fir timbers with a custom warm dark brown finish were used to create a truly singular visual space. There is a feeling of rugged solidity against any winter winds that may be blowing outside.
The indoor space is a timeless, strong, and earnest place to retreat after enjoying the surrounding mountain slopes—reminiscent of European great dining halls.
We raised the frame in Vermont in the dead of winter during a snowstorm. It was amazing to see the team working in unison to raise the frame as the snow fell, and fitting because it was for a ski lodge. Couldn’t have been a better collaboration with our building partners.
