We’re looking for an experienced Journeyman Carpenter to join our passionate and creative team in Farmington, NY. This leadership role requires quality-oriented framing & general carpentry experience, as well as an interest in building high-performance, high-craft custom homes. This role entails leading a small crew of carpenters during the installation of work including finished T&G material to our prefabricated panelized enclosure systems.

 

We typically work 10-hour days, Monday-Thursday with Fridays optional for overtime. Time will be spent building panels in the shop as well as installing work in the field. We typically work on projects within a 4-6 hour drive radius from the shop so travel is required however there is a generous increase in compensation for out-of-town installation work.

 

Required Experience:

 

  • 5+ years carpentry experience
  • General knowledge of building sites, construction planning, crew organization, and job-site management
  • Industry experience including: Framing, Enclosures, Custom Home Construction, Commercial Construction, and Building Systems
  • Excellent math and problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License with clean driving record

 

Preferred Experience:

 

  • Prior experience in high-performance home building, passive house construction, and high-efficiency enclosure systems with a general understanding of high-performance building envelopes and construction methods.

The base salary range for this position is $26 - $35 an hour.

 

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work.

Overview –

 

This experienced carpentry role requires quality-oriented framing & general carpentry experience, as well as an interest in building high-performance, high-craft custom homes. This role entails leading a small crew of carpenters during the installation of work including finished T&G material to our prefabricated panelized enclosure systems. The role requires complete understanding of the build process, project scope, and off-site manufacturing of enclosure systems as well as site-management, team leaderships, and employee development/training as applicable.

 

 

Core Competencies:

 

  • 5 – 10+ years carpentry experience with field proven leadership capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skillset including job-site management, tool and equipment maintenance, and supply management/ordering.
  • General knowledge of building sites, construction planning, crew organization, and job-site management.
  • Competency and proficiency in panel fabrication / installation.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret drawings and frame floor systems, walls, and roof structures.
  • Provide guidance and training to coworkers and subordinates.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and direct carpenters, builders, and staff on-site and in the shop.
  • Knowledge of building materials and best installation practices.
  • Daily communication with project engineers, project managers, and team leadership to relay progress on assigned tasks and any associated issues.
  • Willingness to schedule regular project communication with management / sub-contractors, and other appropriate parties of the jobsite needs, status reports, quality reports, and any issues that need resolution.
  • Ensure all employees that are working on a project are costing their labor correctly.
  • Proficient understanding of the contract documents, including but is not limited to the final contract, any other contracted scopes by New Energy Works, change orders, architectural drawings.
  • Understand the outlook of production/construction schedule and line up the necessary pieces to ensure smooth construction, inclusive of material ordering, sub-contract communication, internal New Energy Works labor needs.

 

 

Equipment & Vehicles:

 

 

  • Must have/ maintain a valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Maintain proper operation and cleanliness of company vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
  • Reporting of any issues with company vehicles or equipment to direct supervisor.
  • Manage company tools/ equipment on-site and on-campus.

 

 

 

Safety & Compliance:

 

 

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards (10 hour preferred)
  • Ability to ensure a safe, clean, and professional jobsite.
  • Knowledge and implementation of best builder practices for all assigned project scopes.
  • Comply with all New Energy Works policies and codes of conduct.
