Inclusion in Motion — Motion Junction Pavillion
New Energy Works crafted and raised the timber frame structure for Motion Junction playground in Canandaigua, NY. This community project is the first Universally Designed & Certified Playground in the Country. The pavilion was designed by eco-logic Studios with input from the IDEA (Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access) Center at the University of Buffalo, with the achieved goal of a fully inclusive, person-centered covered gathering space that could accommodate a diverse population by improving human performance, health and wellness, and social participation. The use of timber frame for the pavilion not only opens space to allow for large areas for a variety of ability persons gather and move but provides intrinsic beauty through the upper timber elements. The use of wood throughout the entire project brings a calming biophilic space to counterbalance the energetic & dynamic playground space.
