Change is Good
We pulled out the torch for this frame, charring, brushing, then burnishing each timber with color to deepen the surface of the Douglas fir to a richer, softer tone. The project started as a major kitchen renovation for a Maryland family but led to the addition of a screened porch and new patio.
All three faces of the porch are unique in their design and integration to the existing home, working around windows, walls, patio, and pool. Each side offers a view out, or enjoyment of the two-sided fireplace within. We’re told the best part is nestling-in with family and friends, no matter the weather.
“As heavy timber isn’t used that frequently in our area, it’s unexpected, so impressive, and people are always thrilled with it. Although New Energy Works is some distance from Maryland, they do take-offs in person and their overall coordination is amazing. In just a few visits the projects come together and go up smoothly.”
