The finishing touches are complete! This timber frame lake home in the Finger Lakes started with our design team and wrapped up with our build team over the Summer:

The home has quickly become the hub of family gatherings for multiple generations. Open in a 180-degree expanse, on a point locally known as Allen’s Point, our design group explained that the home’s layout is intended to make the most of the sweeping lake views.
Located on a point, expansive lake views can be enjoyed from nearly every space within this home. Our teams are always thinking efficiency–this home includes our High-Performance Enclosure system and high-efficiency mechanicals. Photo (c) Scott Hemenway.
A modified “L” shape, the position of the home on the site collects those views as well as links together the beachside with the boat dockside of the property. It also allows private spaces to reside in the long straight of the “L”, separate from the open public spaces. Interior details include a stone wall that threads through the living areas. It breaks away at certain locations, receding or protruding as the space calls for, but always leading through spaces with texture, tone, and consistent material.

Also consistent on the main living level is White Oak flooring with a custom UV Oil finish. These wider planks lead from the entry and laundry to the common areas.
Stair treads crafted from the same Oak ease the transition from one level to the other.

Throughout the home, custom-crafted Walnut pieces from our fine woodworking division–including the main entry door, a credenza, a built-in wine bar, entertainment units, laundry cabinets, and more–unify the interior aesthetics. The kitchen cabinetry and adjacent walk-in pantry built-ins are the dominant Walnut pieces in the “commons”.
More stone adorns the stove wall and a central island celebrates the character/lighter tones of Hickory.
Abundant counter space defines the kitchen perimeter and is wide enough to accommodate stool seating, encouraging interaction with the chef of the day. A built-in wine bar (below) celebrates the deep, traditional tones of Walnut as well as its blonde sapwood live edges.
NEWwoodworks applies the same level of craftsmanship and planning to their built-ins and kitchens as they do to their fine furniture and custom doors.
In the upper level, the wood flooring and cabinetry swap with the rich tones of Modern Farmhouse Clean Walnut defining the master suite floor. Bright-toned Hickory vanities, dressers, and more nestle atop it.
Hickory, rampant with an almost burled grain, was selectively incorporated throughout the master bath double vanity and cabinetry as well as the master closet built-ins.
Inside and outside the home’s design and execution put family first, making room for gathering and enjoying one another.
Near 5,000 sq ft total, the home includes bunk rooms over the garage, two guest rooms, the master suite, and one guest suite all meant to comfortably accommodate many for long weekends at the lake. Photo (c) Scott Hemenway
We particularly enjoyed carving the heart shape for this custom engraving on one of the frame’s central timber beams.
Gathering spaces are abundant outside: A continuous wrap-around porch evolves from open space to sheltered space, from stone patio to enclosed screen porch to covered space.
The timber frame breezeway (left) is a favorite feature of the exterior of this project. Sawn curves in the bottom of the paired beams of the breezeway and porch give a consistent craftsman-inspired flow to exterior timber elements.
