Postcard of the day, May 27, 2011

This windmill resides in Sagamore Hill, NY where President Theodore D. Roosevelt lived with his wife Edith and raised their family of six. The original windmill was constructed with Heart Pine, an abundant species in the early 1800’s. After being rebuilt once with other materials, Pioneer Millworks was glad to supply reclaimed Heart Pine timbers for the third reconstruction in the early 2000’s. This hardy antique wood continues to look great and if history is correct, it should last at least another hundred years. (Photo by Ron Cogswell)
