Our design team at New Energy Works, has created a site specific three story timber frame hybrid home on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. The exterior shape, building orientation and interior program organization all stemmed from the long linear site and gradually sloping terrain that leads the home owners from the road through the woods and to the lake. This home features a fresh sawn Douglas Fir frame with a stained chain saw finish and radius edges. The one and a half story great room has an elegant queen post truss design while the two master bedrooms feature a simple king post truss design. The vertical circulation is highlighted by a timber frame mine shaft like aesthetic that features an open stair well and glass elevator.
This project started in June and continues on. In August we are focused on the main level, master suite, stair tower, and elevator shaft. This winter we'll install the exterior timber components and raise the porches.
