Work Here

Do you have a love for the smell of pine and a need to have sawdust under your nails? Do you have a quirkiness about you that leads away from a cubicle life? If so, you might be one of us and not even know it.  We're currently looking for just the right person to fill these positions.

Engineer/Project Manager for Timber Building and Panelization
—Portland, OR

New Energy Works is looking to add an important position to our Portland-based west coast team. We design and fabricate extraordinarily crafted timber structures and high performance enclosures. Check us out at www.newenergyworks.com. We’re employee-owned, focus on the triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit, have shops in NY and here in McMinnville, with our design studio in close-in southeast.

The position is for an experienced engineer (various levels considered, the right intellect and personality rocks) to design and project manage timber structures, coordinate with shop and suppliers, work with clients and budget, and be an important coworker as we grow our west coast office.

In addition, our next steps include designing/improving our enclosure systems, including the semi-automation of our panel engineering and production.

Pretty exciting times. If you’re interested, know CAD (obviously) and CAM (a help), have experience in construction, like to wear a lot of hats and are interested in a group like us, send a cover letter and resume. For the right person, this track could present leadership opportunities.

Architect/Architectural Designer—Farmington, NY

We're in need of an experienced architectural professional who is looking to be part of a Design/Build team that strives to understand and meet the needs of our client while thinking outside of the proverbial timber frame saltbox. You'll be heavily involved in the entire design process, from the early stages of face-to-face with clients and development of Schematic Designs, to providing detailed Construction Drawings. This role works collaboratively in a dynamic team environment with design and construction co-workers.

Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of architectural experience with great design aptitude whether residential or otherwise, a hunger to learn, and charm to win over clients, builders, PE's, and co-workers alike. Architectural licensure is fantastic, but not a must. The ability to wield our tool of choice, Revit, with ease, create with SketchUp, and focus on high-performance design/construction, is what we're hankering for.

If this sounds like you (and bonus points if you like to bike (mountain or dirt) and enjoy open office environments), send us a cover letter and your resume.

High Performance Home Carpenter—McMinnville, OR

We have an open position for a motivated carpenter/framer to work along with our busy timber frame shop here in McMinnville, Oregon. We are looking for an experienced, quality-oriented, and hardworking craftsman with house framing and general carpentry experience and an interest in building the best, high-performance high-craft homes possible. Our work spans from footings, to prefabricating walls in our shop, to occasional final finish with an emphasis on the energy performance of the home. This position works on site during our enclosure projects and with the timber frame shop to fill in between as necessary, so shop experience is also important and valued. While we are looking for a demonstrated level of skill and experience in a framing setting, the addition of an understanding of high-performance building envelopes, site and shop tools, CNC and/or CAD experience will all be valued but not required.

This job requires the ability to perform tasks in all areas and aspects of timber and general framing. The aptitude to work with tools, timbers, are essential along with the ability to lift and manipulate timbers of up to 50 lbs. and more. Some driving is to be expected and can result in longer commutes to occasional "local" projects, therefore a valid driver's license is required, and you can expect your time to be roughly split between a site and our shop. Occasional air travel is also required as we work not only locally and regionally but nationally as well.

New Energy Works has shops in both McMinnville, OR and Farmington, NY where we design and craft custom heavy timber projects using modern CNC and traditional tooling all the while raising these frames and HP enclosures around the country. NEW operates on the triple bottom line philosophy of people, planet, and profit and we believe in the community of our co-workers. We proved out this philosophy through the recession as we were one of the very few construction companies that chose not to cut back on benefits or earnings and didn't lay off our coworkers.

Please check out our website at www.newenergyworks.com and our sister company Pioneer Millworks at www.pioneermillworks.com for more information about the exciting work that we do with timber-framed homes and also the salvage and re-milling of timbers and other wood into flooring, beams, furniture and more.

This position is full year, full time plus with a great benefits package. The benefits include 70% company paid medical, paid holidays and vacation time, a 401k plan, profit-sharing as available, and we are also a 30% employee-owned company (ESOP) on our way to full employee ownership.

Resumes and cover letters only, replying to this post.
